Vole are not my friends

Voles are small rodents that can be very destructive. There are twenty three species of voles in United States. Five of the species live in Utah and I think they are all in my yard. To complicate issues, they are protected in Utah. (A law that I would like to see changed.)

Voles are prolific. They can have up to five litters a year. Litters range from 1 to 11 voles. The gestation period is about 21 days and females are sexually mature within 40 days. Anyone can do kind math.

Voles dig underground tunnels and cause extreme damage. Your yard can become a series of trails that look like connections of crazy underground. Vegetation disappears. Mounds dirt simply show up in less than an hour.

It has been my experience that when you call for help. What anyone can seriously offer is sympathy and condolences.

Voles are not my friends.
