Tom and Rose Roy have taken it upon themselves to create over 80 holidays. This is a great idea. In a world where there is much doom and gloom and antidepressants are the most prescribed medications, it is a good thing to celebrate whenever possible.
New gardeners will especially enjoy this holiday as they may have planted a few too many zucchini plants. It is a rookie mistake. One or two zucchini plants can provide a plethora of zucchini squash.
The name of the holiday is “National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Night”. It is celebrated every August 8th. Sneaking is imperative because if you are caught you are likely to end up with the zucchini and grundles more, right back at your home.
Even the worst gift is better accepted if it is packaged correctly. It needs to look spectacular. Think of it as a beautifully wrapped present If you have been to a white elephant gift party this is a familiar tactic. (If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.)
A reusable bag for shopping and toting other things is always something a family can use. It is a nice touch if it a knitted, crocheted or sewn with fabric selected for the particular neighbor. Dress it all up with ribbons and bows.
A nice wooden box painted or decorated with decoupage is a thoughtful gift with many uses. Even if they don’t appreciate the zucchini, they will love the container.
This is important in case you get caught. They may be more forgiving.
Since you are delivering a major ingredient, why not give them some good ideas to use them. Have them printed on cute cards. Break out some unusual options that they may have never tried before.
This a a great sub sandwich. It is a vegetarian baked version of an Italian grinder. It is one that can be made ahead and heated up later. Even the kids will eat this one.
This adds something special to the rather common zucchini bread that is exchanged. It is a good one to try.
If you want a very nice looking dinner that is tasty this is a good option. If there are those who really don’t enjoy zucchini they can just eat the topping, which is fabulous.
Include a zucchini treat. This will take care of at least one more zucchini that you will not have to find a home for!
If you somehow happen to miss the holiday on August 8th, all is not lost. Rumor has it that many people feel safe leaving their cars unlocked whilst attending church services. Slip in a few well packaged zucchini.
